Powerhouse Falls, Independence VA

by jennifer
(hillsville VA)

Great waterfall. I grew up playing in the water there. I've even slid down the falls when they're low. They are definitely worth seeing. From route 58 in Independence turn onto Powerhouse Rd.(at the Nautilus sign) At the stop sign turn right and go about a mile and a half(past the Grayson County Recreation Park). Right past the bridge turn left into the parking area. They have started turning it into a park of sorts with picnic tables etc. It's a really nice waterfall that not alot of people really know about. A mill used to operate on the site. The rock columns that held the water wheel are still there. Just be careful on the rocks! Can be very slippery at base of falls. You can actually walk right up to the base! Sorry not able to upload a pic at this time, but take my word for it it's definitely worth checking out if you like waterfalls!
