Lynchburg's very own waterfall, Opossum Creek Falls

Nestled in the Candlers Mountains right beside Liberty University is Camp Hydaway Lake. The water flowing out of the lake cascades about 10 or more feet to Opossum Creek. Very beautiful waterfall even if it's just the result of damming up the lake.

How to get there:
From 29 get off at the Candlers Mountain Road exit in Lynchburg. Get on Candlers Mountain Rd and follow it through the campus and up the mountains.
Stay on the road till you get to Camp Hydaway Rd. Drive on the road for a little bit till you see a small parking lot on the left.

Begin hiking on the trails till you see Camp Hydaway lake. Hike around the lake till you get the dam. There will a bridge there, and trail that goes down the dam. You should be able to see the falls.

Warning, when hiking around the lake, try to avoid the Campsite as much as possible. I've been stopped by security guards there. There are trails that circle around the lake on the other side that avoid the camp.
